February 21, 2008
Greetings from eLIFE to all our friends and supporters:

The Ethiopian Library & Information Foundation For Education (eLIFE) commitment to the idea of ending illiteracy in Ethiopia, page by page, continues. Thanks to the generosity of our many friends, our supporters, and the dedicated service of the volunteers, we were successful in securing and shipping over 33,000 new books, 15 computers and 5 printers to the children of Ethiopia. This shipment of materiel represents the logistical aspect of the goal of establishing the initial round of libraries and learning centers under the banner of our organization, eLIFE. The books and computers have now arrived to the port city of Djibuti.  We are now faced with unexpected additional cost of clearing port as well as customs and storage fee totaling $12,000 .
As always in a time of desperate need we have no alternative other than to appeal to you our friends and supporters to bring us home to victory, calling on you to help us fill the breach once again. Success is within our grasp. For the forgotten and neglected ones of
Ethiopia, your gift of the present that always gives is so close, so palpable, help us help them grasp this tangible expression of care and compassion. Let us seize the time and help change the life of one girl, Debritu, one boy, Gutama, an elder whose hourglass is fast ebbing and the shepherd whose cup is full of wisdom if only the world had a chance
to share in it. Imagine, you have the ability to expose one, two or potentially millions to the magic and enlightening power of books and reading and the transforming power of the pen.

The impact your donation makes in the life of each Ethiopian is immeasurable. To make your donation of any amount to eLIFE, please go to HTTP://www.ethiopianlife.org/donate.htm , click on the Pay Pal logo and follow the directions.

Enkutatash Celebration, September 3, 2006

» HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Thousands of Bay Area Ethiopians and others interested in Ethiopia's culture and cuisine flocked to Lakeside Park in Oakland, Calif., on a sunny Sunday, Sept. 3, to participate in Eunkuttattash, the celebration of Ethiopia's New Year (the holiday actually falls on Sept. 11). Members of the eLife team were on hand to pass out information on our public-libraries project, and to raise funds by selling logo-emblazoned T-shirts, copies of a pictorial book on Ethiopia, and (our most popular item) grilled burgers, chicken patties and all-beef franks. Some of those who manned eLife's booth are shown above -- from left, eLife board member Abdul Abdurahman, executive director Ahmedin Nasser, treasurer Carolyn Knee and public relations chair Rick Knee.

Ethopian Sports Federation 23rd Annual Sports and Cultural Event

»  Every July, Ethiopians from throughout the United States stage a soccer tournament,
drawing scores of teams and tens of thousands of spectators. This year’s event took
place July 2-9 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and eLife’s booth there drew a
lot of attention. Many, many visitors chatted with us and picked up literature, and
a great number of them put their names and contact information on our sign-up sheet
so they can participate in our effort to establish a network of free public libraries
 in Ethiopia.

Enkutatash Celebration, September 11, 2005

»
The eLife Ambassadors were out in force on Sunday, September 11, 2005 in the Lakeside Park at Lake Merritt in Oakland, California to celebrate "Enkutatash," the Ethiopian New Year and to introduce eLife to Ethiopians and Friends of Ethiopia. The annual picnic was a community wide celebration that featured food, fun and musical extravaganza attended by thousands of San Francisco Bay Area residents. The eLife Ambassadors managed to talk to hundreds of festival attendees that stopped by our booth, explained eLife’s mission, answered tons of questions, and recruited hundreds of new volunteers. eLife’s first public outing was a resounding success!
